More disk space needed

Disk full / free up space

Occasionally, you may need to free up disk space to set-up a new project or install a Revit update. It's also possible that Windows will prompt you to do so. Here are a few effective ways to regain storage.

Focusing on Revit-related files will likely yield the most significant space savings. Revit installations can become quite large, especially when working with multiple cloud-shared projects.

Review your personal files

Determine if you need to retain all of your existing files. Selective archiving or deletion can make a substantial difference.

Uninstall unused applications

Evaluate any installed programs you no longer use and remove them to reclaim space.

To uninstall apps on Windows, click the Windows icon. Type Apps and features and press Enter. Find the app you want to remove, click it, then click Uninstall. Follow any instructions to finish. Remember, you will need to approve Make Me Admin to proceed.

Clean-up your Windows installation

Microsoft provides guidance on how to clean-up your system here.

Manage your Revit installation

Autodesk offers recommendations, particularly within the section about Local cached models taking up too much space on the hard drive when using Revit. You can also try to remove projects from your Desktop Connector synchronization.

Also, Autodesk is careless with handling temporary installation files from Revit, AutoCAD, etc. These aren't deleted after installation and can take up several gigabytes of space. Therefore, you can also delete the contents of the folder C:\Autodesk to free up disk space.
