Revit Cloud

Autodesk BIM360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)

Last updated 1 year ago

There are two options for working with Revit in the cloud. Autodesk BIM360 is ideal for early design stages, while Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is recommended for detailed design and beyond – it even includes features for digital construction site and building operations / Facility Management.

Before you start, it's crucial to make sure everyone is on the same page. This means:

  1. Everyone needs to be using the same Revit version (including the updates and hotfixes)

  2. Everyone needs to be using the same version of the Desktop Connector

It is essential that you meet these requirements in order to collaborate in BIM360 / ACC.

We have a on installing Autodesk products, and you can find the latest Desktop Connector . That link also lets you check if Autodesk cloud services are currently online.

In addition to the technical requirements, you must also be invited to the relevant cloud project.

If the cloud is hosted by a customer (i.e., the customer is the cloud administrator), you must request access from them. If the cloud is hosted by A-lab, please contact X-lab to set-up the project or grant you access. We will take care of it.

Create a cloud file

Once all technical requirements are met and you have access to a cloud project, you can start uploading your file.

If you don't follow these steps and create your model directly in the cloud, you'll be the only one who can see it. Collaboration is then not possible.

To do this, your model must already be in a Workshared environment, and you must use Worksets. If your model is not yet Workshared, you can find help . If you are starting a new project and have created the Revit model using our , everything is ready.

It is crucial to use the correct Revit version. Only cloud projects compatible with your version will be displayed. For example, if you are using Revit 2024, you will only see projects created in Revit 2024. Projects from other Revit versions will be invisible / not available.

Open your Revit file, navigate to Collaborate, select In the cloud, and click OK to proceed.

In the next window, you can save your project to the cloud.

First, let's select your account – that means choosing either A-lab or the customer as the project host. Then, you'll pick your specific project. To do this, click on the small arrow under Switch Account > Project and then select Change account.

Now you can choose between your clients or A-lab. For our example, we'll stay with A-lab.

Click on the small arrow again and select your project. In our example, we will select BIM_TESTING ACC.

Select the agreed-upon path and filename, if specified in the BIM manual, and click Save.

Once your model has been uploaded to the cloud, you will receive a notification. The project is now available for editing in the cloud.

Publish a file

When working in the cloud, the disciplines (ARK, RIB, RIE, RIV etc.) are usually organized into teams. These teams ensure that only team members have access to the current Revit model. This is to ensure that project participants work with actually released design statuses and do not accidentally use an old status or an incorrect variant.

To specifically provide other teams with a particular design status as a basis for their work, the Revit model must be published. This publication can be scheduled by the project administrator as an automatic weekly task at a predefined time or manually at any time. In any case, it must be predefined what is to be published. This gives you full control to specify which views and / or sheets are made available to the other teams.

Open your Revit file in the cloud, navigate to Collaborate, and select Publish Settings.

In this window, you can now create different sets in the top area and provide them with different views and / or sheets in the bottom area. If you have many views / sheets in the model, it may be useful to use the Show in list pull-down menu to limit the possible selection.

With the checkboxes, you can select whether a set is part of the publication or not and which views / sheets are part of a set to be published.

If you have to deliver an IFC along with your Revit model, make sure you use the same view for both publishing your Revit model to the cloud and for IFC export.

Once you have made your selection, you can close this window with Save & Close.

To prevent errors, everyone must Synchronize with Central and stop working for publishing.

Archive a project

Go to your project profile and select archived

Unarchive a project

Go to the account administration select view archived, select the project and restore

Switch to the Home page in Revit and select Autodesk Projects. If necessary, you now need to select the account and the project (as we did ). Then, in the project path, mark your Revit file with the checkbox and select Publish without links from the pull-down menu. This is important, because otherwise not only your file will be published, but also all linked files. This will start the publication and you are done.
