Install Autodesk products

PreviousBIMNextCollaboration

Last updated 6 months ago

To ensure that only the latest versions of Autodesk products and only products with valid licenses are installed at A-lab, we have decided to move the installation process away from the Software Center to the Autodesk product website. This also means that all Autodesk products will be removed from the Software Center.

To illustrate the installation process, we will walk you through the steps involved in installing Revit 2024. The first time you install an Autodesk product, Autodesk Access will also be installed. This service ensures that all Autodesk products are kept up to date.

It is essential that updates are installed promptly. Don't worry, Autodesk Access will notify you when updates are available.

If you only need Autodesk Access, you can find the installer . Don't forget to use Make Me Admin to finish the installation.

Assign a license

To connect to our license server, just follow these simple steps:

  1. Launch Revit/AutoCAD etc.

  2. Click on your AutodeskID in the top right corner and select "Manage License..."

  3. In the next window, click "Change license type".

  4. Now, click "Select" under "Use a network license".

  5. In the final window, just enter "XN-SXD4E-008" under "Server Name" and then click "Done" to finish.

You won't get any confirmation message! You can check if everything worked by repeating step two. You should see "Network License : Commercial" as your license type.

When switching from a token-based network licence to a user-specific licence, please follow the same steps outlined above. However, instead of choosing "Use a network licence", select "Sign in with your Autodesk ID" and enter your login details if prompted.

Before you begin

Close any other software running in the background before starting the installation. This helps avoid conflicts that could disrupt the process.

Get the installation files

Go to All Products and Services and search for Revit.

From the search results, click Install on the Revit tile. Revit 2024 with the latest updates is the default.

You can change installation version or installation update if needed, but we'll keep the defaults for now - click Install.

Select Accept to download the installer.

You'll see a notification when the installer has been downloaded. Before we proceed, we need to download one more thing. Just change to Libraries section...

... and download International English - Norway Content for Revit 2024. You'll see a notification that the installer has been downloaded.

Execute the installation files

Now, that we downloaded all necessary installation files, locate the installation files. Usually you will find them in the dedicated Downloads folder, accessible from the Windows Explorer. The Revit installer is usually named something like Autodesk_Revit_2024_2_ML_setup_webinstall.exe. Right-click the file and choose Run as administrator to start the setup process.

Wait for Intility's Make Me Admin to pop up, select Approve request and log-in with your e-mail and password.

The next screen provides an summary what you're about to install. Click Next to proceed.

You may customize installation paths if necessary, but we use the default locations. Click Install.

The installation process may take several minutes - please wait while Revit is installed.

Installation is complete. To restart your computer immediately, click Restart. Make sure to save your work before restarting! If you prefer to restart later, click Not Now.

In either case, click Finish to close the setup window.

Now repeat the procedure with the previously downloaded Norwegian Content:

  1. Right-click the file, it is usually named something like RVTCPENNORWAY.exe, and click Run as administrator.

  2. Approve Make Me Admin for administrative privileges and log-in with your e-mail and password.

  3. Click Install to proceed.

This installation is quick and will not require a restart. Click Finish when the process is complete.

Customize the installation files

If you project requires to install a specific release of Revit, select the version (in our example 2022) and from the pull-down menu next to Install choose Custom Install.

On the next page, you can double-check that Revit is selected and then click Specific version... .

Now you can specify exactly which version (we choose Revit 2022) and which update or hotfix (we choose none) should be installed.

Under Content, you can additionally select Norway Content and then proceed with Next.

Finally, you need to give the installer a name. In our case, we used the Revit version, the update status, and the country package: Revit_2022_without_update_NOR. You don't need to change anything under Advanced options. You just need to agree to the Terms of Use and start the Download.

A installer will be automatically generated before the actual installation begins. You don't have to do anything, it will just take a while for the installation to start.

Use Revit's viewer mode

Every Revit installation includes a handy viewer mode. This essentially runs Revit without requiring a licence, making it incredibly useful for anyone with a network licence who simply needs to view or print files. Here's how to access it:

  1. Go to the Windows Start Menu

  2. Search for "Revit Viewer"

  3. Select the corresponding Revit version

  4. This will open Revit in viewer mode

Make sure you have at least 20 GB free disk space available for the installation process. After the installation Revit will use 10 GB of disk space. If you need to free up disk space, have a look .

Open a web browser and visit your . After you have logged-in, you have access to software downloads, product updates, and online resources.

For instructions on customizing your installation, see .

After you have finished downloading your file, locate it and continue .
