Families: External walls

Assembly code (NS 3451)

The overall assembly code category for external walls is 23 YTTERVEGGER according to NS 3451 (Bygningsdeltabell).

The detailed assembly codes for the different building parts of external walls are:

  • 231 Bærende yttervegger

  • 232 Ikke-bærende yttervegger

  • 233 Glassfasader

  • 235 Utvendig kledning og overflate

  • 236 Innvendig kledning og overflate

Definition external walls

Families for external walls include alle type of walls where at least one surface is placed towards the outside environment and therefore is exposed to the climate:

  • Structure walls (e.g. concrete, leca)

  • Insulated wall constructions (e.g. "bindingsverk")

  • Isolation layers (e.g placed outside monolithic walls)

  • Facade claddings

  • Partition wall between balconies (exposed with both surfaces)

  • Glass facades (=Curtain-wall)

Categories based on material / building system

On Kinship the families for external walls are divided into categories based on materials and/or building system:

  • Glassfasader (=glass facade system walls)

  • Fasadekledninger (=facade claddings)

  • Isolert bindingsverk av stål (=insulated light wall constructions with perforated steel studs)

  • Isolert bindingsverk av tre (=insulated light wall constructions with wooden studs)

  • Massivtrevegger (=Mass timber walls)

  • Utvendig påforing betongvegger (=external insulated wall construction outside concrete walls)

  • Utvendige betongvegger (=external concrete walls)

  • Utvendige kontinuerlige isolasjonssjikt (=External continuous insulation layers)

  • Utvendige vegger av leca (=massive walls built in leca blockwork)

  • Gesimsvegger + takoppbygg (="parapet walls")

Partition wall types (facade cladding, climate wall etc.)

External walls often are modelled as a combination of two Revit family types.

Example 1: Climate wall (Family 1) and Facade cladding (Family 2)

Example 2: Load bearing concrete wall (Family 1) and insulation layer (Family 2)

Please clarify with the responsible BIM-manager if this principle can be used further for the project or if wall types shall be combined, e.g. due to requests from the TE (totalentreprenør).

In cases wall types shall be combined this has to be done manually by adding and copying layers for the wall type. It is not possible to cover all combinations of climate walls and facade claddings since there are too many of them.

Select wall type

a) Early project phase ("Skisseprosjekt")

For housing projects general wall types with predefined thickness can be found on Kinship.

b) Detailing phase ("Detaljprosjektering")

For the detailing phase use the PDF documents which have been created as overview for the different wall types - before loading down from Kinship. Compare the different alternatives before you decide to load down a wall type from Kinship and use it for your project.

General use of wall legend overview:

For each wall type several parameters are shown which are important information and basis for the selection:

1) Overordnet beskrivelse:

Overall description of the wall type

2) Lydklasse (forventet krav)

Expected sound insulation ("lydklasse") which is usually required for this type of wall and based on its function - presumed that sound insulation class C is required for the building (C=minimum required by TEK 17). This parameter is usually not being filled out for external walls, just for internal walls.

3) Lydklasse (maks)

Maximum sound insulation the described wall construction can achieve.

4) Brannklasse (maks)

Maximum fire class ("brannklasse") the wall construction can achieve.

Typical example: EI60 A2,s1-d0

5) Oppbygning:

Each layer for the whole wall construcion are shown in plan drawing and described. This represents the way the wall is supposed to be shown and described in a wall legend.

6) Veggtykkelse This parameter shows the total wall thickness for the wall type in mm.

7) Maks høyde

Approx maksimum height for light wall construction, based on c/c distanse of 600 mm for the studs. This parameter is usually given only for internal walls since there are bigger limitations in height.

8) Kommentarer

Additional comments on the wall type.

9) Assembly code:

Assembly code predefined for the wall type.

10) Revit-family

Name of the Revit-family for the shown wall type.

Veggkoder

The wall codes for the Revit-families are preliminary based on following system:

YV-xx-xx External walls in general ("YV"=Yttervegger, "IV"=Innervegger)

XX-BE-xx Type of wall material (in this example "BE"=betong/concrete)

XX-XX-01 continuous sequence number (01, 02, 03 etc.)

Reason for the divison with wall codes is to make it easier to sort the different wall types after material and systems. There are different companies responsible for each wall category (e.g one company for the glass facades and one another for the leca walls etc.) and the wall codes try to reflects that division as good as possible.

Wall codes related to material/system components:

YV-ST-xx Yttervegger i bindingsverk / stenderverk

YV-BE-xx Yttervegger i betong (ansvar for dimensjonering: RIB)

YV-GF-xx Glassfasader

YV-MT-xx Yttervegger av massivtre

YV-MU-xx Murte yttervegger

YV-KL-xx Fasadekledning inkl. underkonstruksjon

YV-IS-xx Isolasjonssjikt (f eks XPS, EPS som egen sjikt på utsiden av betongvegger RIB)
