Grids, Levels & Scope Boxes

Levels

Only floors for the main plans shall be created. This means that levels shall not be used as references for anything other than the physical floor in the finished building.

Check your levels

Use a level schedule to control the definition of the levels in the model

  • To create a new level schedule, go to view/create/schedule and choose the levels category.

  • The building story must be checked in order to be exported in IFC format.

  • Story Above must be set to default to avoid issues with groups.

  • The elevation should always correspond with the survey point and the symbol (which is defined in the type) should be set to read the survey point = ‘globale koter’ (shared coordinates).

  • Levels and room definition

The room area represents the BRA based on the standard NS 3940 where the definition of usable area are the spaces with a minimum height of 1,9m.

The computation height is the offset distance from the level that is used to calculate the perimeter of the room. To adjust it, select the level and properties.

  • Drawing the grids

The grids must be 100% parallell, or when in an angle is desirable to avoid decimals as is difficult to measure on the site. Use the A-lab tool to check all the grids.

Once the grids are correct they should be pinned.

When using dwg underlay, avoid using the pick tool as you might transfer to the revit model inaccuracy from autocad. Draw one grid using the dwg file and copy the revit grid as needed.

  • Extension of the grids

To convert the control symbol from 2D to 3D, select the grid/click on the 3d symbol.

If the symbol is grayed out, remove the crop/select the grid/right click/reset to 3d extends.

TIP! Grids can be adjusted in one view only by switching the control symbol to 2D, these changes can be updated in other parallel views by using the propagate extends tool.

  • Datums and scope boxes

To resize datum elements to match a scope box, you must associate each grid or level element with the scope box.

The grids and levels now displays only in views that intersects the selected scope box.

The default Computation Height is 1900. In cases with pitched roof, the computation height must be set to 0 and room boundaries should be used to create the correct room boundary according to the area rules.
