Setting up a Workshared environment and creating a Central file lets you share the Revit model so multiple people can work on it at the same time. If you followed the instructions in the previous chapter, you should already have a Central file. But, if you need to turn a regular Revit file into a Workshared project, go to the Collaborate tab and choose a location on your network to save it.
Never open or edit a Central file directly!
Always work on your Local file – that's the copy on your computer. To be sure you've got the right one, open Revit, find your project folder, and make sure Create New Local is checked before opening the file.
If your Revit model is feeling sluggish, creating a new Central file from your existing one can sometimes boost performance. Here's how:
Open your Revit file and Detach from Central.
Save it with a new name (or use the same name if you've already got a backup).
Close the file, then open the Local file. This is important, otherwise you'll be locking other users out of the project.
